In this convenient online class, you’ll learn the same techniques that I teach in my studio. You’ll watch me create this collage from the beginning through the finished painting. You’ll begin to understand how to make your work look like much more than “a bunch of stuff glued on a surface.”

ou’ll also watch as I integrate 2 more simple glued “surfaces” into finished paintings.
You’ll see me paint the bird & butterfly painting on the right from the very beginning. On the other two, you will see the steps from where the images are simply glued on the paper all the way to the completed work as shown to the right.

When you’ve finished this online course, you will understand collage. And how to make your collages look like real paintings, instead of “stuff glued onto a surface”, even if you’ve never painted before.
I teach more techniques in this online course than I can teach in a 1 day studio class. In my studio must limit my instruction & demo to 1 hour to allow my students time to paint.

You will need acrylic paint, a few brushes, acrylic matte medium, and some heavy student grade watercolor paper…or some canvas. This class is NOT about buying supplies. It’s about encouraging your creativity and becoming comfortable with making art. Basically, you can use whatever you have in the area of watercolor or acrylics plus drawing supplies. Read through the description below for ideas.
SINCE this class is ONLINE, I will not be providing supplies.
I’ll include tips to help you in choosing a place to work and the music to inspire you.
The videos are close up of what I am working on as I work.
You’ll see exactly what I am doing.
My video camera is only 3 feet from my hands and my painting. You could never get this close in any studio class.
I’ll explain as I paint…not only what I am doing, but why.
I share my thought process, so you’ll learn about color, design & composition. And you’ll hear my thought process when something doesn’t please me.
You’ll see what I do in that event.
Everyone has times when they aren’t happy with a result,
even if they don’t admit it.
You’ll learn that there are no mistakes…only happy accidents. We learn from everything we do…even the things that don’t please us.
And the creative learning process thrills our creative right brain, our heart, our soul…whatever name you use to refer to your creative spirit.
As we go through the class, I will be happy to respond to your questions about materials and techniques.

I will not be able to help you with computer issues. If you want to see whether the videos will play on your computer, you can watch the sample video above.
If the video seems slow, stop the play so the video can load into your computer’s memory. Then start the play again. If you can watch any online videos, you will be able to watch the ones for this class. There are no refunds.
People who have dial-up internet have told me that they can watch Vimeo videos by starting the play and then stopping it to let the video load and THEN playing it.
I’ll teach you how to use acrylic paint, paper, colored pencils, oil pastels, acrylics & mediums, various exotic papers for collage and hand-carved stamps. I encourage you to begin with supplies you have, and add other items as you become inspired by the videos.

Thanks for such a great art experience. It was such a pleasure to be allowed time to do art.
